I find it hard to eat healthy. But with the birth of my first son in September 2013 it became a little easier.
For most of my life I suffered through gastro-intestinal issues. Poor digestion, bloating, fatigue… and the best the doctors could do was to tell me to avoid certain foods. And not the foods you would think but good for your foods (or as we like to call them, “Go foods”) like broccoli and bell peppers. When I found out I was pregnant with our first child I requested a juicer for my birthday as I knew I was missing so many nutrients my body would need to grow a human on my very limited and somewhat trashy diet. We started juicing and making smoothies and I felt my energy levels increase.
But it wasn’t until my son was born and he had inherited my gastro-intestinal issues that I became determined to find some better solutions. We worked with a naturopath and first eliminated dairy then gluten from my diet and within a couple of weeks my son was a completely different baby. He went from borderline colic, super fussy and very difficult to happy, social and generally content. The added benefit? I felt 100 times better myself, lost that last 10 pounds and I could eat broccoli and peppers again no problem!
And just like that, we became a gluten-free, dairy-free, juice-making, smoothie drinking family.
